New first-person chronic-pain book
Very reasoned, very calm, yet quietly affecting memoir/analysis of failures of medical system to deal with chronic pain (as opposed to actue pain, which they have down) by Canadian professor Lous Heshusius. Particularly affecting are parts about the lack of attention to the topic of suicide by health-care providers and the agony of subjecting one's self to horrific side effects from drug after drug.
To buy book (and see my blurb!), see Amazon.com page of Inside Chronic Pain: An Intimate and Critical Account (The Culture and Politics of Health Care Work) (Hardcover): Cornell University Press, October 2009.
